Programs & Activities

Edison Elementary School provides a variety of programs to enhance the learning experience.

Preschool

Edison hosts one Head Start class and four sessions (2 am/2 pm) of KinderU. These classes bring to campus our youngest learners to help with social and academic skills. Both programs help students be ready for kindergarten when they are 5.

PBIS

Edison students used their PBIS/Dojo points to shop at the PBIS Store.

STORE is held every 2-3 weeks for classes and students learn that their efforts on campus are rewarding in and out of the classroom.

Therapy Dogs
Helping students and staff on campus.

Paws & Peers, in collaboration with East Valley K9’s Angel Dogs, trains therapy dogs for Mesa Public Schools campuses (Select schools only). Participating district staff and their dogs pass obedience and therapy classes and are independently tested and approved by an Animal Assisted Therapy evaluation. The goal of Paws & Peers is to provide a new way to incorporate lessons on social and emotional learning, resiliency, empathy and the human-animal bond for students and staff. Students also interact directly with the dogs for more individualized learning opportunities. These dogs may serve as a trusted companion in the classroom, counseling, health or administrative office for crisis intervention, behavioral de-escalation, or to address stress, anxiety and/or isolation.

If you do not want your student to participate in this curriculum or animal engagement, please visit this page for an opt-out form and return to the school office via email or drop off.

Lori and Baci

I have some exciting news to share with you! I have joined

your campus this year as a visiting Gifted and Talented

Enrichment teacher. I will be frequently bringing my dog

Baci (pronounced bahhh-chee) with me to school. We

went through the Mesa Public Schools Paws and Peers

Therapy Dog Training Program. We passed the Animal

Assisted Therapy evaluation and are a registered therapy

dog team.

My husband and I rescued Baci from Friends for Life animal

rescue in Gilbert, in July of 2023. He is approximately 3

years old. We had his DNA tested and found out he is

a mix of 22 breeds! The largest numbers are Boxer,

Chihuahua, Poodle, Terrier, and Shar Pei. As you can see

he is very unique! Baci is a sweet soul and loves people,

especially children!

Students will have the opportunity to see the social and emotional

benefit a dog can bring to an environment. My goal for the Paws and

Peers program (and Baci) on campus is to visit with students; to

provide attention to those in need; while also strengthening the school

community.
